A collaboration between Knetterdet and Remake Studio, it started with a conversation.
About sustainability, fast fashion, about how quickly we buy and discard clothing.
About the hidden cost that fashion carries: the pollution of our planet and the exploitation of makers on the other side of the world. From that conversation, we; Knetterdet and Remake Studio, began to explore.
Can clothing that’s seen as worthless become a source of creativity and connection?
The answer: yes. Through tufting, we transform discarded T-shirts into something new, powerful, and collective.
Past, Present, Possible
Past
Every piece of clothing was once someone’s favorite, bought and worn with pride and emotion.
Present
In the reality of fast fashion, we lose that love quickly. Clothes end up on the waste pile, along with their hidden environmental and human costs.
Possible
Together, we turn this discarded clothing into a large tufting project: a city map of Eindhoven, made from textiles we have collected.
Taste of Tufting
During Dutch Design Week, we invite visitors to take part in creating this tapestry.
Everyone can experience tufting for themselves and contribute to a collective artwork. A taste of tufting: accessible, creative, and connecting. For Knetterdet, it’s a way to show how tufting workshops can inspire people to create circular and with joy. For Remake Studio, it’s a powerful example of how discarded fashion can be re-valued and re-used in a sustainable way.
City Tapestry is:
- a collective portrait of the city, made from clothing that would otherwise become waste.
- a statement against fast fashion and textile waste.
- a lasting symbol of what’s possible when we act together.
Today in Eindhoven. Tomorrow in other cities. Each time crafted anew from the threads of our daily lives
In 2 hours, anybody from the age of 8 until 14 can make their own patches from different denim - perfect to make a statement or to save your favorite jeans. We supply some examples, but you're free to make your own design!

Discover how to draw with a sewing machine. This hands-on workshop teaches you the technique of free-motion sewing. Sketch with thread as your pencil and fabric as your canvas. You’ll dance across fabric, layering stitches, yarns and scraps into expressive compositions.
Working with different threads and fabric scraps, you will experiment, practice and create your own stitched piece. Bring a printed photo of your inspiration; a person, animal, object or pattern and watch it come to life.

With Visible Mending, holes, stains or even tears in your clothing are repaired in a decorative way. While repairs used to be made as invisible as possible, often seen as a sign of poverty, today they are proudly displayed. This way your garment not only gets a second life but also a unique, personal touch.
Bring your own piece of clothing and learn creative techniques to repair it yourself.
You will leave with new skills and a beautiful renewed garment.
